Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)

2 teaspoons active dry yeast

2 teaspoons salt

1 tablespoon sugar

2 tablespoons olive oil

Cornmeal or additional flour for dusting

Instructions

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Make a well in the center.

Pour the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil into the well of the flour mixture.

Using a wooden spoon or your hands, mix until the dough starts to come together. If it's too sticky, add a bit more flour, a tablespoon at a time.

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Once risen, punch down the dough to remove excess air. Divide it into two equal portions for large pizzas or leave it whole for a thicker crust.

Shape each portion into a ball and let them rest for an additional 30 minutes, covered with a towel.

Preheat your oven to its highest setting (typically around 475°F to 500°F or 245°C to 260°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat up.

Roll out each dough ball on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer to a parchment-lined peel or baking sheet, and add your favorite toppings.

Slide the pizza onto the hot stone or baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and crispy.

Prep Time: 15 mins | Total Time: 3 hours (including rising time) | Servings: 2 large pizzas
