Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

2 cups broccoli florets

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1-inch piece of ginger, minced

1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium recommended)

2 tablespoons oyster sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

2 teaspoons sesame oil

1 teaspoon sugar

Cooked jasmine rice, for serving

Toasted sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

Green onions, chopped for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15-30 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.

Prepare the Broccoli: Blanch the broccoli florets in boiling water for about 2-3 minutes until they are bright green but still crisp. Immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain and set aside.

Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 1/4 cup soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and ginger. Set this sauce aside.

Stir-Fry the Beef: In a large skillet or wok, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove it from the skillet and set aside.

Cook the Aromatics: In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant, but be careful not to burn it.

Combine Everything: Return the beef to the skillet, add the blanched broccoli, and pour in the prepared sauce. Stir everything together and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and everything is heated through.

Serve: Serve the beef and broccoli over a bed of fluffy jasmine rice. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.
