Ingredients

3 ripe bananas, mashed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas and melted butter, mixing until smooth.

Add the brown sugar and granulated sugar to the banana mixture, stirring until well blended.

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture, then mix in the flour until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts (if using).

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

Once baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then lift the bars out using the parchment paper and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Cut into squares and enjoy these delightful chocolate chip banana bars!
