Ingredients

12 Sweet Hawaiian rolls

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

½ cup heavy cream

½ cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup crushed pineapple (drained)

½ cup shredded coconut (optional)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.

Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally and layer them in the greased baking dish, cut side up. If desired, sprinkle crushed pineapple and coconut evenly between the halves.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layered rolls, pressing down gently to ensure all the bread is soaked.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and let it sit for about 30 minutes to an hour (or refrigerate overnight for a deeper flavor).

Bake covered for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top.
