Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Prepare the Brownie Layer:

      - In a mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth.

        - Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract.

          - Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

            Prepare the Cookie Layer:

              - In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

                - Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well incorporated.

                  - Gradually add the flour, baking soda, and salt, mixing until combined. Then fold in the chocolate chips.

                    Layering the Browkies:

                      - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.

                        - Scoop dollops of cookie dough on top of the brownie layer, then gently spread or swirl it to create a marbled effect. It doesn’t have to be perfect!

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean with a few moist brownie crumbs attached.

Cool and Serve: Allow the browkies to cool in the pan for about 15-20 minutes before lifting them out using the parchment paper. Cut into squares and enjoy!
